LPO Volunteers is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to service and support for the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.
Since the early 1990s, the all-volunteer group has raised more than $2 million through its solely owned businesses – The Encore Shop and Symphony Book Fair – and contributed thousands of volunteer hours to support the LPO.

Book lovers of all budgets can peruse the expansive collection of books (fiction, cookbooks, history, self-help, science, mystery, sci-fi, biography, literary arts, foreign language, children’s books and more), original art, prints, frames, CDs, DVDs, sheet music, biographies and more.
Items range in price from 75 cents to $9, excepting collectible books. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.
On Friday, June 2, patrons will be charged a $15 entry fee from 9 AM – 3 PM for access to the entire collection – 100,000 volumes and other items.
On Sunday, June 4, from noon till 2pm, all children’s books will be on sale for $5 for an entire bag.
Special donations have included such things as:
- Books on military and science fiction aircraft
- Books in Hungarian
- Documents including 19th century estate inventories
- Psychiatry books, many historic and on Freud
- Ornithology and bird-watching books
- Sci-fi books
- Marvel Omnibus and other pristine comic books
- Gay liturature and biographies
- Elementary teaching aids and readers
- History of Magic, 8-volume set
