Visions of Vienna & Salzburgwith music by Mozart and Strauss
New Orleans | Orpheum Theater • Covington | First Baptist Church
Missy Mazzoli’s Sinfonia (for Orbiting Spheres) takes us through loops, twists, and turns in preparation for our tour of Austria. With connections to both Salzburg and Vienna, Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 was premiered by the composer himself in Vienna. Next up, “The Waltz King”, J. Strauss Jr.’s viennese waltz Where the Citrons Bloom. Finally we come to the Suite from Der Rosenkavalier, a comic opera set in Vienna, written by Richard Strauss, who drew inspiration from the city of Salzburg throughout his career.
