Beethoven Symphony No. 7
New Orleans | Orpheum Theater • Covington | First Baptist Church
Praised as one of the leading cellists of our time, Julian Steckel makes his debut with the LPO! A whirlwind tour of orchestral music made up of quotations from many famous pieces, Unbegun Symphony by American composer and parodist Peter Schickele, sets the program in motion. Next, Steckel's technical and musical prowess takes center stage in Prokofiev's Sinfonia Concertante for Cello and Orchestra; a piece that was, for a long time, considered unplayable. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7, widely regarded as one of his best works, ends the program.
