Matthew Ernst

Matthew Ernst is a native of Massillon, OH, and joined the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra as Associate Principal Trumpet in 2007. Matthew received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Michigan where he studied with William Campbell and his Master of Music degree from Southern Methodist University where he studied with Tom Booth.
Before moving to New Orleans, Matthew worked as a freelance musician in Dallas, TX, where he played Principal Trumpet in the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra. While in Texas, he also performed with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the Dallas Wind Symphony. During the summers, he has attended the Tanglewood Music Center, the Pacific Music Festival, and the Brevard Music Center.
Matthew and his wife Janna, who a vocal coach and accompanist and works for the New Orleans Opera, have a daughter, Madeleine, and a cat, Jet.
